Made In Manchester

Branding

I started exploring the idea of a badge that could be used across Mediaburst’s portfolio of products whilst working on the redesign of their website. It seemed appropriate to use “Made In Manchester” as a theme since the Mediaburst offices occupy a converted textile warehouse in Manchester’s Northern Quarter.

I kicked things off with a bit of image hunting to get some suitable reference material. Here’s the resulting mood board.

Branding

The humble worker bee has been associated with Manchester since the industrial revolution. It features on the city’s coat of arms, in the mosaic floors of the town hall and even on the bins around town. The hexagonal honeycomb structure was a subtle nod to that tradition. The factory roof made a handy “M” shape. Combine the two and bingo! You have a badge fit for use on the footers of Mediaburst’s products, Textburst, Clockwork, SurveyMill and Timetastic (now an independent product).
